Matthew Tomko

as Jesus Christ

For the past 5 years Matthew has been a principal soloist at the State Theatre in Kosice, Slovakia where he made his debut as The Speaker of the Temple in The Magic Flute in the 2006-2007 season.

He began his singing career whilst being a student at the Church Conservatory of Music in Bratislava, Slovakia. Shortly after graduating from his 6-year studies he was offered a role of Commendatore (Gazzaniga’s Don Giovanni). Ever since then Matthew has been quickly gaining recognition as an artist of exceptional expressivity in both operatic and concert fields.

The most magnificent performance for Matt, as a deep velvet bass, came in the 2009-2010 season with Prince Gremin’s Aria from Eugene Onegin. Matt was considered to be one of the prime soloists of the opera house and he was casted as Sarastro (Magic flute), Bartolo (The Marriage of Figaro) and Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor).

Matthew also regularly performed with the Kosice opera house in Fertőrákos (Kroisbach) Cave Theater in Hungary with the Magic Flute, Faust (Gounod), Un ballo in Maschera (A Masked Ball) and La Traviata.

His concert credits include the bass parts of Mozart's "Coronation" C major and Requiem, Te Deum by Pavol Krska, Cantate Domino by Richard de Lalande, Laudate pueri Dominum by J.C.F. Fischer, spirituals, folk songs and songs from Dvorak, Smetana, Trnavsky and Copland.

Matthew is currently singing the part of Sarastro with the Co-Opera Co.
